Meet the Summer 2013 Interns

This past summer, four undergraduate History majors walked the streets of Camden looking for traces of a devastating riot forty years before, tracked lost and forgotten sites of Swedish American heritage in Andersonville, dug into the rich holdings in culinary history at the Newberry Library, and sought meaning in the historic patterns of enrollment in Chicago’s Catholic schools.

National Girls Baseball League Documentary Film Research Internship

Adam Chu, an independent filmmaker living in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago, is seeking a research assistant for his National Girls Baseball League Documentary Film Project. The National Girls Softball/Baseball League was a women's professional softball league that existed in the city of Chicago from 1944-1954. The league featured many well known ballplayers from the 1930's, 40's, and 50's, including Freda Savona, Audrey Wagner, and Sophie Kurys.

Internships at the Newberry Library

Ever wonder what it's like to work in a leading research library? The Newberry Library has internships available in Communications and Marketing, Digital Imaging, Events, Genealogy and Local History, Maps, and Public Programs for the fall semester. Not only can you receive HIST 398 credit, but you can also earn $250 towards your tuition through our History At Work Fellowship program.

Fall Internships at the Hinsdale Historical Society

The Hinsdale Historical Society in Hinsdale, Ill. is looking to regularly recruit history students in the Chicagoland area to enhance our 19th century historic house museum and become an important institution in our community. With that, we are now seeking qualified and enthusiastic interns for a variety of projects at the Hinsdale History Museum.

Western Springs Historical Society Oral History Internship

The Western Springs Historical Society seeks a qualified historian to assist with their oral history initiative. This initiative seeks to capture the history of Western Springs and its people through the voices of those who currently reside here or have resided here in the past.

Chicago Metro History Education Center Summer Internship

The Archives Intern will work with staff at the Chicago Metro History Education Center (CMHEC) to review and organize approximately 60 feet of archival records from the 35 year history of the Chicago Metro History Fair.

Go on Archaeological Dig this Summer and Get HIST 398 Credit

Looking for an unusual HIST 398 internship this summer? Go on an archaeological dig in Portugal!  Students can earn HIST 398 credit by participating in one of the following two digs and blogging about their experience.
