The Chicago Metro History Education Center has three great internships available for the Fall 2014 semester. Work with the Center in internships organizing its archives; promoting its programs and resources, especially the History Fair; or creating a development plan. CMHEC Archives Internship
This intern will work with staff at the Chicago Metro History Education Center (CMHEC) to organize its archival records from the 35-year history of the Chicago Metro History Fair, an annual competition in which local students (grades 6-12) present research projects on topics related to Chicago history. The primary tasks of the internship are to a) organize slides, photographs, as well as other print records and program materials for deposit in the collections of the Newberry Library, and b) identify interesting images, documents, and materials for use to promote History Fair. The intern may also work with CMHEC staff on events related to the annual Chicago Metro History Fair competitions. CMHEC Communications Internship
The Communications Intern will work with staff at the Chicago Metro History Education Center (CMHEC) to promote CMHEC programs and resources, especially the History Fair. The primary tasks of the internship are to successfully produce the organization’s monthly newsletter, manage CMHEC Facebook page, contribute to the CMHEC website and use of web analytics. Additional activities may include: writing and distributing press releases; contributing to the organizations communication plan through social media and email marketing services; creating a student and teacher story file; and developing a database of alumni contacts. Students who are majoring in communications or marketing, or who have an interest in nonprofit organizations are encouraged to apply. Professionalism and excellent communication skills, written as well as oral, are required. Knowledge of JOOMLA and Constant Contact is strongly preferred. An interest in working with teachers and students is desirable. This internship will provide a $500 stipend upon successful completion of the internship project. CMHEC Development Internship
The Development Intern will work with staff at the Chicago Metro History Education Center (CMHEC) to assist with the implementation of a development plan (including development events, an annual giving plan, and Board activities). The Development Intern may perform a variety of fundraising functions, including: supporting the planning, marketing, and execution of fundraising events; updating web pages as needed; coordinating development projects and activities; maintaining and enhancing the fundraising database by processing donations and generating queries and reports; responding to donor inquiries; assisting with development of marketing and communications materials; assisting in coordinating fundraising events; conducting prospect research; and possibly supporting grant writing and reporting activities. Students interested in fundraising, events management, or marketing; or with an interest in nonprofit organizations are encouraged to apply. Professionalism and excellent communication skills, written as well as oral, are required. Knowledge of JOOMLA, Constant Contact, and/or Access is preferred. An interest in working with teachers and students is desirable. This internship will provide a $500 stipend upon successful completion of the internship project.
